More than three decades have passed since reunification, and in many areas living conditions have converged. But not least the alarming results of the last elections, which have shifted the political balance, especially in large parts of East Germany, raise fundamental questions about the upheavals in our society, radicalization and new extremisms. Is authoritarian-populist thinking and right-wing extremism just an East German problem? What inequalities exist and how can possible rifts in our country be overcome? How united, how divided or even seperated is Germany? Does the persistent juxtaposition of East and West really capture the decisive contrast? Or does it merely serve old narratives and prejudices? These and many other questions were examined during the peace talk and the diverse aspects of East-West relations in terms of living standards, political attitudes and identity issues were considered.
