Tanja Maljartschuk is one of the best-known Ukrainian writers. She deals with the horrors of Russia’s belligerent expansionist policy in an impressive literary manner. With her outstanding, multi-award-winning work, she gives the people of Ukraine a voice, expresses their pain and builds a bridge between their reality and ours. In her lecture, she spoke about the importance of peace and highlighted the effects of Russia’s aggressive expansionist policy; in doing so, she poignantly interwove history and personal life stories and gave the audience a moving insight into her home country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tanja Maljartschuk was born in 1983 in Ivano-Frankivsk. After studying philology, she worked as a journalist in Kiev. She emigrated to Vienna in 2011. Her collection of stories “Neunprozentiger Haushaltsessig” was published in German in 2009, her novel “Biografie eines zuf\u00e4lligen Wunders” in 2013, “Von Hasen und anderen Europ\u00e4ern” in 2014 and “Blauwal der Erinnerung” in 2019. In her collection of essays published in 2022, “Gleich geht die Geschichte weiter, wir atmen nur ausmen”, she deals with the war in her home country. The author regularly writes columns for Deutsche Welle and Zeit Online, among others. In 2018, Tanja Maljartschuk received the prestigious Ingeborg Bachmann Prize.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
