Donald Trump’s renewed presidency in the USA promises fundamental domestic and foreign policy changes. Trump’s radicalism could become an acid test for American democracy and the transatlantic partnership with Germany and Europe. As in the USA, an ideological and rhetorical radicalization is also emerging here in Germany. Populist simplifications and polarizing trench warfare a la Trump are also finding favour in the German election campaign and are being fuelled by the US tech mogul and Trump adviser Elon Musk. The political culture of the post-war era is crumbling – here as in the USA. Is there a threat of a social divide like the one we experienced so disastrously in Weimar politics? What are the consequences if populists come to power? And what would be the way back to peaceful and civilized conflict resolution? Based on these questions, the results of the Bundestag elections held a few days earlier were also examined in the peace talk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
