Climate change and the associated global warming are one of the greatest challenges facing humanity in the 21st century. Not only does it have serious consequences for our ecosystems, but it is also increasingly perceived as a threat to security and stability. In particular, the 2020 Peace Report by the German peace research institutes drew attention to the complex and difficult-to-assess consequences for peaceful coexistence. Various studies point out that the climate crisis will increase inequalities and dependency structures and multiply existing social tensions. Conflicts between the global North and South, between social classes and between generations are already evident today. Increasing weather extremes, natural disasters and dwindling resources are increasing poverty and hunger and are linked to flight and displacement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Does climate change actually lead to more violence and war? What is the state of research in this context? Can multilateral global cooperation succeed and what role does the European Union play in this? Will climate change increasingly shape the security policy of states or will it fade into the background in view of Russia’s war of aggression, which is massively changing our security architecture?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the peace talk, the guests discussed the complex interrelationships, the risks of climate change for peace and security, possible solutions and peace policy prevention strategies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
