The debate on climate change, environmental destruction, and resource consumption harbors a wide range of conflicts; between the Global North and the Global South, between social classes and, in particular, between generations. Why is the implementation of the Paris Agreement failing, and is there a genuine danger that future generations will be affected negatively if we fail to tackle climate change? The call for sacrifice is closely connected to this debate. What sacrifices must the current generation make, and how should they be made? Christian Lindner (FDP) is of the opinion that sacrifices need not be made – the problem can be resolved instead by technological development. Is this a realistic viewpoint? How can the remaining emissions trading budget be distributed fairly, and what can be done to prevent divisions in society? These questions and others were discussed among the panelists and with the audience.

The Peace Forum was organized as a special format in cooperation with the Climate Ambassadors of Osnabrück’s Ursulaschule.
